I have tried this with my webcam mic and it is having the same problem. I have removed the device and plugged it back in, checked for the most recent drivers, and used the troubleshooter. All of my applications that use the mic can see that the mic is plugged in but audio will not transmit to the application. Now my the sounds tab acknowledges that it knows that the mic is there, but the bars that indicate detected sound do not light up green. I know the microphone is still working by itself because I have listened to it and heard my own voice very clearly. I have a Blue Yeti Microphone and it was working perfectly fine before the windows update.
